I am not a huge fan of Trump.
But he looks like the favorite to take on Biden. Or Gavin. Or Michelle. Or Big Mike.
Meanwhile, Kennedy is sitting there ready to spoil something. Will he spoil it for the Democrats? For the Republicans? We don’t really know.
And yet Kennedy is capable of being more than just a spoiler. RFK Jr. is the most dignified of all the candidates to hit the campaign trail. Is he perfect? No. He has a checkered past and is terrible on the teachers unions and trans and climate change.
But he is measured, researched, sincere, and articulate. He is bringing good ideas and a refreshing approach to the campaign trail. He is part populist, part liberal, part conservative, and part libertarian. And he is hell-bent on doing what Trump failed to do his first time around: kill the 4th branch of government—also known as the Deep State.
What if they teamed up? What if they joined forces to take down the corrupted, captured three-leter agencies? What if they did it as Republican President and Independent Vice President?
Jefferson & Adams
When John Adams became the 2nd POTUS in 1797, the man he beat in the election, Thomas Jefferson, became his Vice President. This is how the Founding Fathers originally drew up the rules—the runner-up became the VP. Adams was a Federalist and Jefferson a Republican.
You see, the Framers had not envisioned political parties. And the whole Adams/Jefferson relationship was awkward and mostly unproductive—even contentious—to the point that the 12th Amendment was eventually ratified to “fix the glitch.”
But imagine an Independent Kennedy as Republican Trump’s Vice President. It doesn’t sound so bad does it?
Neutered Role of VP
Today the Vice President is a nothing job. Sure, the Veep is the tie-breaker vote in the Senate. But apart from that they get to lead Covid Task Forces, attend funerals and get Border Czar duty.
But they don’t do anything important. They don’t really have responsibilities. They are simply there in case the President is killed (or falls down a jet bridge).
Why hasn’t any administration redefined the VP role? Why not have it do something? Why doesn’t Trump use RFK Jr. for a specific purpose—one that Kennedy is perfectly prepared to do.
RFK Jr. as VP COO
Trump had his hands full during his presidency. He was constantly shooting himself in the foot with his own mouth while the Deep State, Democrats and UniParty Republicans actively worked against him.
And he really had no one that he could depend on. Pence was a total dork. Barr hated Trump. Pompeo was a UniParty insider. Flynn got taken out. Bannon, Mnuchin, Haspel, Azar. It was kind of a disorganized mess.
If Trump were to actually want to “drain the swamp” (it’s not clear to me that he does) then he would have need an A team led by an A player.
Kennedy is an A player. He is a lawyer who has fought against captured agencies for decades. He has a chip on his shoulder for the FBI & CIA thanks to his assassinated dad and uncle. And he has spent the last 15 years learning about the corruption inherent in Public Health, HHS, NIH, CDC, FDA and Pharma.
RFK Jr. could redefine the Vice Presidency as the COO of the Executive branch.
And Trump could focus on the border and the economy and Chyna.
Does Trump have the humility to “hire” Kennedy and let him shine? Does Kennedy? Trump would simultaneously have to elevate the role of Vice President while convincing Kennedy to focus his energy inward—exactly where this country needs his energy focused.
If both could put their egos to the side (impossible I know) the pair of them could actually accomplish something special.
But Kennedy Would Need To Stoop To Trump’s Level
Not so sure about that. Ideally, RFK Jr. remains an Independent even while serving for a Republican President. He can tie-break in the Senate however he sees fit. In essence, Kennedy would be Jefferson to Adams, but with a common objective to blow up the Deep State.
Trump and Kennedy share quite a bit in common in terms of their populist support. Trump would probably LOVE having a Pro-Choice VP to start moving the Republicans toward a more moderate stance there. They both want a secure border and a justice system that isn’t weaponized. They both favor free speech and have been victims of state-sponsored censorship.
Trump and Kennedy could even agree to retain their own policy opinions and never “toe the party line.” Heck Trump doesn’t toe the Republican line anyway. So why would he care if Kennedy openly differed with him on significant policy decisions.
What does Trump get out of it? He is assured the presidency. His legacy will include the dismantling of the Administrative State. And he will reshape the Republican Party away from the Neocons, Never Trumpers, and Single-Issue-Pro-Lifers.
And what does Kennedy get?
A runway. A platform. A job.
Trump just might need Kennedy to beat Dark Brandon. And Kennedy might need Trump to win the White House in 2028.
And America might need both of them to need each other to cull the Deep State and save the Republic.
RFK would never be VP to Trump. He has even said so.
